First Grade NELP students will study English eight times per week. This will include three lessons of Reading Comprehension, two lessons of Grammar and Writing, two lessons of Oral Communication, and one lesson using the Notre Dame Virtual School.
In the reading classes, students will learn about a wide variety of written forms, including poems, short stories, speeches, quotes, and easy non-fiction articles. In the grammar classes, students will learn the fundamentals of grammar: punctuation, sentence structure, parts of speech, verb tenses and other basic structures of English grammar. Students will also learn about the writing process, and will learn how to write a five-paragraph essay. In the Oral Communication class, students will learn about different kinds of oral communication, including role-plays, improvisation, interviewing, and discussion. Through the Notre Dame Virtual School, students will learn about a variety of world topics.
Second Grade NELP students will study English nine times per week. This will include three lessons of Reading Comprehension, three lessons of Grammar and Writing, two lessons of Oral Communication, and one lesson using the Notre Dame Virtual School.
In the reading classes, students will learn about a wide variety of written forms, including poems, short stories, speeches, public statement, and easy non-fiction articles. In the grammar classes, students will learn advanced grammar structures that will allow them to express complex ideas and opinions. Students will also learn about a variety of writing forms and styles, including business writing, creative writing, and an introduction to writing research reports. In the Oral Communication class, students will learn about different kinds of oral communication, including drama, improvisation, discussion and debate. Through the Notre Dame Virtual School, students will learn about a variety of world topics.
hird Grade NELP students will study English nine times per week. This will include three lessons of Reading Comprehension, three lessons of Grammar and Writing, two lessons of Oral Communication, and one lesson using the Notre Dame Virtual School.
In the reading classes, students will learn about short fiction, famous speeches, and articles from magazines and newspapers. In the grammar classes, students will learn advanced grammar structures that will allow them to express complex ideas, opinions, hopes, fears and conditions. Students will also be guided through the process of writing a research report. In the Oral Communication class, students will learn about different kinds of oral communication, including presentations, persuasive speaking and open discussions. Through the Notre Dame Virtual School, students will learn about a variety of world topics.
